MATHIAS
Mathias is a rapper. There is no question about that. His lyrical prowess and fluid, commanding delivery have been well documented and celebrated in St. Louis for years. He has been a member of multiple hip-hop based projects who have all found a level of success that sets them apart from other "local" acts. As a member of "Earthworms", Mathias has taken his music to another level. Appearences at SXSW and LA's House of Blues, along with a tour of Europe that spawned an upcoming documentary have set the stage for Mathias and company to enter the consciousness of a much bigger audience.
"Devils, Pirates & Rebels" is Mathias' first solo album after a long, fruitful career of being a company man. It has the ebb and flow of a well executed mixtapem the kind you used to make on a duel tape deck in 1995. Mathias' influences range from punk rock, to 90's hip-hop, to old school soul and funk, and they all come together seemlessly in this impressive effort by a tried and true midwest hip-hop veteran and pioneer.
